Königsee 2010
Lars and I spent a bit over a week at Königsee and although the weather
was not too good, did get a few days of sun and did some mountain walks. As a
warmup we took the boat to Bartholomä and walked up to the
Kärlingerhaus, aka Funtenseehaus. A long tiring slog, and the "hut" is a
dark and forbidding place; it was freezing. Back down towards the end of the
lake, another endless rough slog, and the boat back to Königsee. Another
day I finally realised my years-long plan to circumwalk the Watzmann in a
single day. I had done stretches of it but never together, and worked out
that it might take 14 hours. It took us 13 - with me lagging behind all the
way as usual. Finally, we had planned to do the long traverse from
Kehlsteinhaus over the three peaks Hoher Göll, Grosser Archenkopf and
Hohes Brett to the Stahlhaus but you need a garanteed sunny day for that
which there wasn't, so we went up to the Stahlhaus on the last day and up and
over the Schneibstein to a small dark brooding lake and back down, another 12
hour walk.
We drank a lot of lovely buttermilk - it's different up there - and beer.
Lars reckoned he never drinks that much beer in a week, which is saying
something.
On the way home we had a day in München and took a trip to Dachau,
the concentration camp during WWII. Depressing museum, and we took a few
photos.
